How to Judge Any Agent, Including Me
Every agent in Scottsdale will tell you they are experienced, responsive and local. None of that is checkable. These four things are, and you can verify them about anyone you are considering before you sign anything.
Check the licence yourself
The Arizona Department of Real Estate keeps a public database. It shows the licence number, when it was first issued, whether it is currently active, and which brokerage the agent hangs it with. Mine is SA585112000, issued in 2007, held with My Home Group Real Estate. Look it up.
Ask what they have actually closed
Not career totals. Recent transactions, in the price band and the areas you are shopping. An agent who mostly sells at half your budget is learning on your purchase.
Read reviews that name a transaction
A five-star rating on its own means little. Reviews that describe a specific property, a specific problem and how it was handled are worth all the generic ones put together.
Find out who you will actually deal with
Many listings are won by a name and serviced by an assistant. That can be perfectly fine, but you should know it before rather than after. With me you deal with me.
If someone will not answer those four questions directly, that is your answer. Interview two or three agents before you choose; it is a large transaction and the differences between them are real.
